The Electronic Resources Center (ERC), part of the
Fondren Library, provides
Rice students, faculty, and staff access to equipment, software, and expertise for producing or using digital media. At the ERC, you may:
- Scan slides,
film,
images
(up to 11.4" x 17"), and documents
- Digitize video using a dual deck mini-DV/VHS
unit or dual deck-VHS/DVD unit, and edit it using iMovie, FinalCut
Pro, or Premiere
- Digitize audio from record, tape, mini disc,
or CD, and edit it using SoundForge
- Record a narration, a conversation, or a song with Logic or Audacity in our sound editing booth.
- Check out a digital camera, digital camcorder, minidisc audio recorder, edirol digital audio recorder, microphone, or tripod. Please note that you must supply your own recording media (e.g. miniDV tape, mi
nidisc, DVD, etc).
- Create your own DVD-Video with DVDStudio Pro
- Duplicate DVDs or CDs up to 25 copies at a time with Disc Publisher.
- Create animations using Flash
- Create web pages using Dreamweaver
- Create or edit graphics using applications such as Photoshop, Freehand, and Illustrator
- Receive informal, hands-on training
in any of the applications listed above. (Appointments

- Use one of the ERC's multimedia
CD-ROMs, electronic texts, or linguistic corpora.

The ERC also offers a pleasant environment for studying and working on group projects. Our second floor features lots of windows, lounge seating, a collaboration area with a 50 inch plasma display, and study tables, and wireless networking is available throughout the
facility.
