About Rice and the Web

Did you know that Rice was one of the first 10 websites ever registered? While that is a fun fact, the reality is that we've been diligently maintaining a website since the early 90s. (For a fun look at the old designs, see the Wayback Machine. Originally updated solely by Information Technology, the web is now maintained by a joint effort of IT and Public Affairs.

Rice is as multi-faceted as the Web. There are many resources online and on-campus to assist you. Any questions or issues you may have can also be sent to helpdesk@rice.edu. From there, the trained staff can determine the best person/group to help solve your problem. See the Campus Resources section for more information.

Campus Resources for Website Management

The Rice Information Technology Department is the best place to go for help setting up a website. Located in the Mudd Lab, they can help you set up your personal or departmental account. They can also reconfigure the people who have permission to access the site. For most questions, ask the Help Desk.

Rice Web Services is a great option for departments, centers, and institutes. A division of IT, Web Services can help with planning, architecture, design, programming and production of your site.

Public Affairs handles the broader university site and most administrative websites. This includes the main and associated offices of the President, Provost, Enrollment (including Admission), Public Affairs (including News and Media Relations) and others.

The RICEWWW mailing list and its twin the rice.riceinfo.www newsgroup are a forum for World-Wide Web users, administrators and data maintainers at Rice.
