Liu Jianfan was born in Hebei Province. He graduated from Wuhan Medicine College with bachelor degree in 1983. He obtained his master degree in Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, majored in Dialectics of Nature in Medical Philosophy.

Before the current appointment as deputy chair of university council, Huazhong University of Science & Technology (HUST) in 2000, he had been a teacher in Wuhan University and Tongji Medical University(TMU). He also previously served as deputy director in Research Office of Dialectics of Nature, TMU, deputy director of Press Office TMU, Vice-president then President of Tongji Hosipital.

Mr. Liu Jianfan was recognized as Associate Professor in September 1992, and Senior Researcher in December 1998. He was a member of board directors, Chinese Society of Dialectics of Nature and the vice director of board of directors, Society of Dialectics of Nature in Hubei Province.
