Professor Long Xiaole was appointed as Executive Vice Chairman of the University Council, Wuhan University (WU) in 2005. He graduated from Wuhan Institute of Hydraulics & Electrical Engineering (WIHE) in 1982 with bachelor degree. He gained his Master degree in the same university in 1989.

His previous posts include Dean of Dpartment of Mechanics WIHE, Vice President, WU. He is also a Permanent Member of Board of Directors, National Universities Research Council of Building Mechanics; Member, Academic Disciplinary Consultative Committee of Electrical Power Universities; Vice Chairman, Hubei Provincial Society on University Leadership Study; Vice Chairman, Hubei Provincial Society on Moral Education; Chairman, Hubei Provincial Society on Retired University Cadres.

His interest of research is mechanic engineering and automation, human resources management, ideological studies, campus management, logistic services of a university. In recent years he was chief designer of the scientific project on Steel Rope and Knitting Machine, awarded second-class prize by the National Ministry of Electrical Power in 1993; He was a team member of the research project on Power Line Galloping, awarded the Second-class Prize for Scientific Advancement by the state & First-class Prize by the Ministry of Electrical Power.
