Zhang Rong
Vice President of Nanjing University

Dr. Zhang Rong is Vice President of Nanjing University in charge of scientific research and international cooperation. Meanwhile, he is also a professor at the Department of Physics, and Director of Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Advanced Photonic and Electronic Materials.

Dr. Zhang Rong makes remarkable scientific achievements in his academic field. He is an influential expert of China in the low-dimensional semiconductor quantum structures and devices. In 1999, he was awarded title professor of “Cheung Kung Scholar Award Plan” by the Ministry of Education. In 2000, he won the National Distinguished Young Scientist Award.

Ever since 2002, Dr. Zhang Rong has been presiding over international cooperation and exchange of Nanjing University. He promoted and strengthened effective cooperation with world famous universities, institutes, and multinationals, such as Johns Hopkins University, State University of New York, Polytechnic University, University of Texas at Dallas in USA, University of Waterloo in Canada, University of Southampton, University of York in UK, Ecole Normale Superieure de Paris, University of Paris XII-Val de Marne in France, Georg-August-University of Geottingen in Germany, IBM, NSCI in US, etc. As a result, a group of joint research institutes have been established at Nanjing University, like Nanjing-New York College, Sino-Canadian College, Nanjing University-University of Southampton Joint Center, Sino-French Urban Research Center, Sino-German Institute of Comparative Culture, etc.
