Born in Hunan Province, China, Prof. Zhou Xuhong graduated from Hunan University in 1982 and majored in civil engineering. In 1992, he was honored with Doctorate Degree of Engineering in Hunan University. Currently, he is a professor of civil engineering in both Lanzhou University and Chang’an University. In 2006, he is appointed as president of Lanzhou University.

Prof. Zhou Xuhong had once taken the positions of vice president of Hunan University and president of Chang'an University. Meanwhile he is the vice president of China Steel Construction Society, vice president of China Highway and Transportation Society, executive member of China Civil Engineering Society, vice director of Committee on Light-weight Steel Structure under China Association for Engineering Construction Standardization, member of Professional Committee of Structural Engineering under the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, member of Specialist Committee of China Steel Construction Society, member of Academic Committee for Key Laboratory of Structural Construction and Vibration of the Ministry of Education in Tsinghua University, member of the Engineering Department of Science and Technology Committee under the Ministry of Education, member of the assessment committee of the Department of Engineering and Materials Science under National Natural Science Foundation of China, evaluating expert of National Science Progress Award, member in the compiling committee of several state and industry standards, chief editor of Journal of Architecture and Civil Engineering, editor of Journal of Building Structures, Journal of Steel Structure, Journal of Progress in Steel Building Structures, etc.

Prof. Zhou has led and accomplished some key projects from state’s Tenth Five-Year Plan, key projects from state’s international scientific and technological cooperation, projects from National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has made remarkable achievements in the field of steel structure.

Professor Zhou has won many prizes awarded by the state, provinces and ministries, including the second prize and the third prize of National Science Progress Award, the first prize of Science Progress Award of Shaanxi Province and Hubei Province, the first prize of Science Progress Award in China's University, the second prize of Technology Invention Award in China's University, the second prize of Science Progress Award of Chongqing city and Hunan Province, and the first prize for his excellent work in teaching in both Hunan Province and Shaanxi Province and the second prize of national level award for his excellent work in teaching.
