Since its founding in 1993, the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy of Rice University has become a leading institution advancing effective foreign and domestic policy. One of the hallmarks of the Institute's early years has been its independent research program on energy issues. Located in Houston, Texas, the energy capital of the world, the Baker Institute established the Energy Forum in 1996, a multifaceted program that promotes original, forward-looking discussion and research on the energy-related challenges facing our society in the 21st century.
The Energy Program at the Baker Institute seeks to expand the scope of its work in the energy area to respond to growing interest from policymakers and industry leadership. The forum is supported by a group of corporate and individual members who participate actively in its programs, research and outreach. The forum provides an opportunity for members to participate first hand in the institute's energy research and energy policy events and to meet personally the distinguished statesmen and industry leaders who shape the energy world today.
Membership in the Energy Forum involves a commitment of time and resources. There are three levels of membership, designated according to financial commitment: Advisory Board, Patron and Member. All Energy Forum members receive recognition in invitations, event programs, publications, and program websites.
