From its inception, Rice University has had a special relationship with Houston. Rice’s founders, themselves Houstonians, sought a university that would reflect their city’s drive and destiny of greatness. Houstonians long have viewed Rice as a symbol of the city’s commitment to intellectual excellence and a necessary engine for their own progress.

Out of that special city–university relationship have come hundreds of mutually beneficial collaborations that have greatly enriched civic and academic life. In an attempt to catalogue the spectrum of Rice–Houston engagement, so that the university and city alike might best capitalize on the collaborations, we have created this site.
