Study revives Olympic prospects for amputee sprinter
Thanks in part to the Rice University Locomotion Laboratory (RULL), South African bilateral amputee track athlete Oscar Pistorius may be able to run at the Beijing Olympics after all. A world-renowned team of experts in biomechanics and physiology from six universities used data collected at RULL to refute scientific claims that the prostheses worn by the 21-year-old athlete would provide him with an unfair advantage in the 400-meter race.
Owls win 13th consecutive conference title
The Rice Owls baseball team swept the University of Houston last weekend to claim their third straight Conference USA championship — and their 13th consecutive conference championship under head coach Wayne Graham, dating back to the Western Athletic Conference and Southwest Conference. As a result of the weekend win, Rice will be the No. 1 seed in the 2008 Entergy C-USA Baseball Championship, which will be held in New Orleans May 21–25.
