New Data Center

*Weekend Event Window

Weekend Event Windows extend for 52 hours. We do not anticipate any single application or service to be unavailable during the entire window. Rather, individual services and applications will experience intermittent outages throughout the event window as their servers or related components are migrated to the new data center.

Information Technology and Rice's Facilities, Engineering, and Planning division are in the process of building a new Data Center for Rice University. After an extensive pre-design effort, the design and construction funding for this project was approved by Rice's Board of Trustees in early 2006. The anticipated completion date for the new data center is July 2007. Additional details on the Project can be found in the F&E project web site.

Commissioning Date: July 20, 2007

After the new data center building is commissioned, it can be occupied and the transfer of servers and other equipment will begin. Watch this site for additional news on services and applications that may be temporarily unavailable during the migration of servers and clusters to their new home.
