IT Guides

These PDF files contain basic how-to's ranging from how to get software at Rice to utilizing the IT Help Desk. These four guides were first introduced during the February 8, 2006 "Ask the Expert" forum sponsored by Human Resources.

Show Me How (Free Training)

Free training courses are offered year-round for Rice faculty, staff, and students. These two to three hour courses include hands-on experience for the most popular software programs in use at Rice. Want to know more? Scan the list of courses and class descriptions.

Each year, IT Publications publishes printed guides to the computing services and resources which the university provides to Rice students, faculty, and staff members.

Calendar Help

Oracle Calendar through the Internet

Access your calendar through the Web Login page.

Free Personal Calendar and Group Scheduling Service for the Rice Campus! Oracle Calendar is a central calendar, time management and meeting scheduling system which has been licensed for all Rice faculty, staff, and students. Many departments on campus are using this free service to help them schedule meetings, manage conference rooms, and maintain tasks lists.

Although there is no charge for use of the program, you must get an account to access the system. Request your account through the on-line help system at http://helpdesk.rice.edu.

Oracle Calendar offers Macintosh, Windows, and Unix desktops. It2/4/08ess. Although the system allows university-wide scheduling, you have great flexibility in controlling access to your personal calendar.

Create Web Pages

Although most professors use Owl-space, some instructors can create and publish web pages to supplement their courses. Personal web pages are an option for Rice employees and students.
