Owlnet Overview

Rice University does not require students to bring their own computer to college. The Division of Information Technology (IT) is dedicated to providing the IT resources that students need to complete their educational goals and one of the ways we provide IT resources to students is through Owlnet resources.

Although Owlnet originally began as a separate computer lab and network, greater efficiencies and synergies could be achieved by integrating support for student computing with overall support for instructional and research computing. Within IT, the department of Academic & Research Computing (ARC) focuses on the technological needs of the educational community at Rice, including the area that students still think of as Owlnet.

The terms "Owlnet computer labs" and "Owlnet classrooms" just indicate that IT maintains the technologies in these areas.
