Outage Alert Screen Saver

For Macintosh computers running OS X Tiger, an automatic screen saver feature includes Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds. This means that blog postings and other RSS-feeds can be used as screen savers. To customize the screen saver feature to show important outages and other alerts, follow these instructions:

  1. Open the System Preferences Application for OS X Tiger 10.4
  2. Select the Desktop & Screen Saver Preference Pane.
  3. Select the Screen Saver tab.
  4. Select the RSS Visualizer screen saver.
  5. Click the options button to set the screen saver to the RSS feed of your choice.
  6. The RSS feeds that appear in the options for the screen saver are ones that are bookmarked in Safari.
If you wish to add a different RSS feed that is not present, then open Safari and bookmark that RSS feed. Then repeat the above steps to find that new feed in the RSS list for the screen saver.
