Operating System Updates for Windows
Staff members in the Division of Information Technology (IT) regularly monitor security issues concerning Windows Computers. Windows Computers that are maintained by IT staff will receive system and software updates as needed (see ADRice below).
Members of the Rice community who maintain their own Windows computers, at home or in the office, should regularly check the Microsoft update site at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ with Internet Explorer. Follow the prompts to scan your computer and apply the latest updates. Or, use the Automatic Updates utility (in Control Panel, System, Automatic Updates or Control Panel, Automatic Updates) to automatically download and install updates from Microsoft.
Failure to do so may result in a security compromise of the computer from an off-campus attacker. The results of a security compromise can range from the computer being temporarily disabled on the network (minimum impact) to complete data loss (maximum impact). In all situations there will be considerable disruption to the operation of the computer.
