FileMaker Pro Database Hosting

Description

Information Technology offers hosting for FileMaker Pro databases on a centralized, managed server running the latest version of FileMaker Pro Server Advanced.

• IT Services
  • Administration of the central server, including backups of client databases and software updates. The server is continuously monitored and customer support is provided during working hours Monday through Friday.
  • Integration with campus directory services for secure access to client databases. Authorized users authenticate with their Rice netID username and password.
  • Modification of client database accounts and privileges for compatibility with server hosting requirements and user access requirements.
  • Assistance with the purchase and installation of FileMaker Pro client software, and notification of software updates and upgrades.
• Security Options
  • Databases can be hosted on a server that is accessible outside of Rice University (suitable for those who need people to access the data from other locations and/or would like to use the ‘web publishing’ feature of FileMaker Pro).
  • Databases can be hosted on a server that is locked down to on-campus use only.
• Client Responsibilities
  • Database conversion from older FileMaker Pro version for initial server hosting.
  • Database authoring, modification, and maintenance including data entry.
  • Acceptance of the terms of Information Technology's Service Level Agreement for FileMaker Pro Database Hosting services.
  • Payment of annual fees for services as defined in the Service Level Agreement.
  • Provision of user computer workstations that meet the minimum requirements to support FileMaker Pro.
• Costs
  • Annual Fee of $80 per year for each FileMaker Pro client workstation accessing a hosted database
  • Database hosting fees (per organization)
  • One single user database hosted for free
  • Multi-user database hosted for $300 per year
  • Services Offered on a Cost Per Hour Basis
    • Appropriate for those who need help with design, development, and/or maintenance of a FileMaker Pro database.
    • Upgrading / converting databases usually only take a few hours.
    • Custom security and reporting can be built in to your existing database using features of the new versions of FileMaker Pro.
