File Backup
Contingency plans usually include backup copies of data and other important resources. All personal computers recommended for use at Rice University include portable media drives. Older models contain at least a floppy disk drive and more recent models offer CD drives and DVD drives. Most new computers purchased in the last three years contain a USB port as well. CDs can be purchased on campus at the Rice Book Store or off campus at Target, Wal-Mart, OfficeMax, Office Depot, etc.

Note: IT-sponsored Unix systems are backed up each night. If necessary, a request may be submitted to helpdesk@rice.edu for a file restoration. Please include the appropriate date that we should use for the file restoration.
