Classroom & Lab Software
Installation Requests

Technology-enhanced Rice University classrooms and labs are provided to meet the instructional goals of Rice professors and graduate students. These classrooms and labs are scheduled by the Office of the Registrar. Funding for educational software applications may come from individual departments. Software applications used by a significant portion of Rice students may be funded through the Office of the Vice Provost for Information Technology.

Instructors request software for their courses in the semester prior to use of the software application. This provides an ample time period to research, test, and install the software.

Submit a Request

The Educational Technologies staff is utilizing an automated survey tool to collect software installation requests. Please submit your request online at http://www.rice.edu/it/request.html.

If you have any questions regarding the software installation request for your course, please contact David del Pino at 713-348-5137 or ddelpino@rice.edu.

IT strives to fulfill software requests for curriculum use in the Owlnet labs and podiums in registrar scheduled rooms, but not all requests can be deployed. Typically, Spring installations are either upgrades to or extensions on existing applications installed previously for the Fall semester.

A complete list of software currently installed on podiums and labs is available online in the classroom technology web pages.

Each request is carefully considered based upon a number of factors, including:

Final decisions on the next semester's software installation requests will be communicated by the last day of classes in the current semester.
