Software Recommendations

Operating System

Choose the operating system you feel most comfortable with. We recommended Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium and Apple Mac OS X, although Linux is an alternate choice for the more computer-savvy (see Linux FAQ).

Office Suite

We recommended an office suite such as Microsoft Office or OpenOffice.org. Microsoft Office is also available at all computer labs on campus.

Antivirus

Antivirus software is available free of charge from Rice for all Rice students and is strongly recommended.
