Sarah Campbell Blaffer, 1885-1975
Operating without a permanent exhibition space, the Sarah Campbell Blaffer Foundation has toured its art works widely in Texas and elsewhere. However, substantial gallery space in the planned Audrey Jones Beck Building of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, scheduled to open on 25 March 2000, will be devoted to works in the Foundation's collection.
This web site allows access to images of and information about virtually all the paintings in the Foundation's collection, as well as a checklist of the prints belonging to the Foundation. The catalogue of the collection as it appears at this site is intended to be dynamic. The Foundation director, James Clifton, is currently writing a systematic catalogue of the paintings for publication in book form, and this web site is essentially that catalogue as it develops. Your comments on works in the collection or on the texts that appear at this site are therefore very welcome. If you have further information on the works, comments on or corrections to the texts as they appear here, please send them to the Foundation using the e-mail link provided on this page and subsequent pages. Information on the paintings is also available in catalogues of the collection by Christopher Wright, Terisio Pignatti, Martin Butlin, and Renaud Temperini. (Full references can be found in the bibliography to the on-line catalogue.)
