CHRONIC DISEASES IN HISPANICS
This module covers the distribution of the three chronic diseases that are major causes of mortality in Hispanics--heart disease, cancer and non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. The module also examines the distribution of the major known risk factor
s for these diseases. Heart disease and malignant neoplasms are the top two causes of death in Hispanics. Diabetes mellitus was ranked 7th as a cause of death in 1992, but it is the one chronic disease from which Hispanics are at greater risk of dying t
han other racial/ethnic groups.
