Tuberculosis

The Pan American Health Organization currently monitors the rate of drug resistant tuberculosis in Latin America. Rates of resistance in Mexico tend to be high due to the availability of anti-tuberculosis drugs in over-the-counter cough remedies.

U.S. government policies which seek to restrict the access of illegal aliens to health care have the potential of resulting in the spread of transmissible diseases among the general population. They tend to avoid utilizaing clinics obviously sponsored by the government. Physicians must make an effort to create a non-threatening environment to provide treatment for these individuals. Only then will the opportunity arise to screen them for communicable diseases.
