INSTRUCTION SET A
These are instructions for students who take the course for elective credit through Baylor College of Medicine.
1: Course Content
The readings and exercises are presented on screen. In some cases, you will be asked to access another Internet address to review documents or figures. Familiarity with Internet navigation, Windows systems and sending and receiving e-mail are a prerequi
site to completing course assignments. A brief orientation will be provided to students who register for the course at Baylor.
2: Assignments
Each module contains information in text, tables and figures. Students are asked to review this information and answer questions. The answers are expected to be brief and concise, although students who wish to prepare longer and more detailed responses m
ay do so. To complete the course satisfactorily, students must provide answers to all labeled "assignments."
3: E-mailing assignments to the course instructor
It is assumed that most students will review course material in the Baylor Medical Informatics Education Center (MIEC) in Room M308. Students who work in the Baylor MIEC can use the Eudora system to e-mail assignments to the course instructor, Valory Pav
lik. Students who are not familiar with Eudora may consult manuals available in the MIEC.
Students may work at home if they have Internet access and the ability to send e-mail messages.
The instructor's e-mail address is vpavlik @ bcm.tmc.edu.
4: Evaluation of performance
Students' assignments will be reviewed by the course instructor and graded as satisfactory or unsatisfactory. In general, written assignments that reflect comprehension of the material presented and thought given to developing an answer to a specific que
stion will be considered satisfactory.
All students will take a written, multiple choice final exam to provide a standardized assessment of achievement of specific course objectives.
