ITAL   101 ELEMENTARY ITALIAN I                     Credits 4.00  Fall 99
           * DISTRIBUTION GROUP I (second semester must be completed)
Concentration on all four language skills, supplemented by work in the
language laboratory.  Basic elements of Italian culture and
civilization: an overview of current events and ideas.   This course
also includes a "RAI" video.

ITAL   201 INTERMEDIATE ITALIAN I                   Credits 3.00  Fall 99
           * DISTRIBUTION COURSE: GROUP I
A review and consolidation of the structure of contemporary Italian.
Literary and cultural readings serve as a basis for the class discussion
and conversation.  Oral reports and compositions will help to increase
fluency and naturalness.  This course also includes a "RAI" video
program and a movie by an Italian director.
Prereq- Ital 102 or placement exam.
