NEUR 500 FUNCTIONAL NEUROANATOMY AND SYSTEMS NEUR Credits 3.00 Fall 99 This course will introduce the student to the anatomy of the nervous system, with a strong emphasis on the functional connections between brain regions. We will begin with a relatively brief overview of the gross anatomy of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nervous system, then proceed to more detailed discussions of the neuroanatomy involved in sensory perception, movement, speech, memory, emotions, and neuroendocrinological functions. The neurotransmitters, cell types, and synaptic features of each brain region will be discussed. 001 TTH 02:30PM-03:50PM SH*460 TBA *CURRENT ENR: 0 NEUR 503 MOLECULAR NEUROSCIENCE I & II Credits 3.00 Fall 99 Addresses aspects of the development, structure, and function of the nervous system, including receptors and ion channels, which are critical regulators of neuronal function. Investigates recent advances in understanding the protein structure and functional relationships of these types of molecules, and the the molecular basis for how they achieve their functions in the neuron. Prereq- permission of the instructor; Biochemistry. 001 TTH 04:00PM-05:20PM SH*460 TBA *CURRENT ENR: 0
