RUSS 331 RUSS COLONIAL & POST COLONIAL DISCOURSES Credits 3.00 Spring 99
What the Russians call "their" native land is often not theirs at all.
This course has a double focus: to examine Russian imperialist
discourse on the people of the Caucasus, Central Asia, Siberia, and
other minorities in literature and film of nineteenth and twentieth
centuries on the one hand; and on the other, to survey the post-colonial
discourse of these peoples themselves. No prior knowledge of colonial
and post-colonial theory is expected, and no knowledge of Russian is
required.

A survey of major works in Polish literature from the Renaissance to
the present with emphasis on major stylistic trends, principal authors
and their works. The course will help the students to develop a
systematic understanding of the major concepts in Polish culture and
their connection with the European thought
