Continuation of Chinese 101. More attention will be paid to the Chinese writing
system (Chinese characters) while conversation skills still receive priority.
Weekly attendance at the language laboratory and participation in a weekly
tutorial required to receive full credit.

CHIN 202 INTRODUCTION TO CHINESE LANGUAGE AND CUL Credits 5.00 Spring 01
Continuation of Chinese 201. At the completion of this course, students should
be able to converse at an intermediate level, and will be able to approach
native language materials with the aid of Chinese language dictionaries. The
class is conducted primarily in Chinese. Weekly attendance at the language
laboratory and participation in a weekly tutorial required to receive full
credit.

Exploration of modern Chinese literature though the visual imagery of Chinese
films. Includes an analysis using literary history and narrative structure to
link film adaptations to their original texts in Chinese fiction, with emphasis
on narratology and movie theory.
Films, subtitled in English, shown outside of
class. All reading in English translation. No previous knowledge of Chinese
literature or language required. Also offered as ASIA 332.
