This course will examine Russian and Czech history, mythology, literature, and
art by focusing on three legendary centers of Slavic civilization. We will
read selected passages from authors such as Kafka and Dostoevsky; listen to
music from Orthodox chants to Tchaikovsky and Dvorak; explore the Hermitage
museum through documentary footage, and view classic films including "The
Unbearable Lightness of Being." Conducted in English. Also offered as SLAV
