SLAV 242   DRAMA II-ADVANCED POLISH                 Credits 3.00  Spring 01
A content-oriented second year Polish. Advancement in language proficiency will
be achieved by reading works of Polish playwrights such as Slawomir Mrozek and
Aleksander Fredro.

SLAV 320   SLAVIC CULTURE: MOSCOW-SAINT PETERSBURG- Credits 3.00  Spring 01
* DISTRIBUTION COURSE: GROUP I
This course will examine Russian and Czech history, mythology, literature, and
art by focusing on three legendary centers of Slavic civilization.  We will
read selected passages from authors such as Kafka and Dostoevsky; listen to
music from Orthodox chants to Tchaikovsky and Dvorak; explore the Hermitage
museum through documentary footage, and view classic films
including "The
Unbearable Lightness of Being."  Conducted in English. Also offered as RUSS

SLAV 411   MODERN POLISH POETRY IN TRANSLATION      Credits 3.00  Spring 01

This course is about two recent Nobel Prize winners and their even better
colleagues.  It is about the poetry of a country where poetry is still taken
seriously...from time to time.  No knowledge of Russian required.  Also offered
