The objective of the course is to stimulate language production at the advanced
level through the examination of the lexical, syntactic, and stylistic
characteristics of contemporary French.  The course thus relates the contents
of descriptive, narrative, and argumentative texts to specific functional and
grammatical objectives.  The course also features an individual or group
research component through which students will be able to practice French in an
academic field of their choice. Enrollment is limited to 20.

FREN 303   SPECIAL TOPICS IN FRENCH: MUSIC IN FRANC Credits 3.00  Spring 02
Debussy, Ravel, Satie and Faure provoked a rupture in the history of music only
comparable to the one introduced in poetry by the symbolists, and to aesthetic
revolution of the impressionistic painters. Musical evolution will be examined
in its intimate relationship with poetry and painting. Live music will be
featured in a number of special sessions held in the Shepherd School. Knowledge
of music theory is not a requirement. Enrollment is limited to 20.
