WILL 209 DESIGNING WITH TYPE Credits 3.00 Spring 02
Smart use of type communicates its message clearly. The digital age has spawned
legions of new designers, but the old rules still apply. Everyone is affected
by the use of typography -- through books, magazines, websites, posters,
traffic signs, TV -- but few can articulate why a certain design works or
doesn't work.
Through hands-on exploration of typography, students in this
course will develop sensitivity to the formal variables in typographic design
(face, weight, size, leading, color) and learn to solve problems of visual
communication and expression.
