JAPA 101   INTRODUCTION TO JAPANESE LANGUAGE AND CU Credits 5.00  Fall 03
Elementary Japanese emphasizes the learning of basic grammatical structures and
vocabulary of modern Japanese to develop oral competence at the novice level.
This goal is achieved primarily through aural-oral activities in a
task-oriented instruction to language and culture learning. Students are
expected to achieve the level of proficiency necessary  to handle successfully
for uncomplicated communicative tasks in Japanese.  Participation in
weekly-tutorial session is required. Enrollment is limited to 20.

JAPA 201   INTERMEDIATE JAPANESE LANGUAGE AND CULTU Credits 5.00  Fall 03
* DISTRIBUTION COURSE: GROUP I
With further practice in conversation, grammar, reading and composition. Class
will be conducted exclusively in Japanese. Proficiency-based instruction to
language and culture learning will allow students to achieve in the end of the
second semester the intermediate level of proficiency to handle successfully a
variety of uncomplicated communicative tasks in Japanese. More emphasis on
kanji practice with the Japanese writing system. Participation in weekly
tutorial-session is required. Enrollment is limited to 20.
Prereq- Japa 101, 102, placement test, or permission of instructor.

JAPA 301   ADVANCED JAPANESE READING AND COMPOSITIO Credits 3.00  Fall 03
* DISTRIBUTION COURSE: GROUP I
Classes will be conducted in Japanese. Enrollment is limited to 20. Texts
include a variety of subjects and topics including web-based texts created and
developed by the instructor to sustain students well-developed abilities and
skills in Japanese. Reserved films and videos are included in the course as
part of the text.
Prereq- JAPA 202, placement test, or permission of instructor.

JAPA 398   JAPANESE TEACHING PRACTICUM              Credits   Fall 03
This course gives students with advanced proficiency in Japanese the
opportunity to acquire teaching experience in tutorial
	format. Includes
regular meetings with supervising faculty member. Enrollment is limited to 20.
