LATI 311 LATIN PASTORAL POETRY Credits 3.00 Fall 03
Survey of Latin pastoral, with its idyllic country sides, singing shepherds,
and lovely laments. Readings drawn from Virgil's Ecologues, Calpernius,
Sirulus, Nemesians,Einsiedel, Eclogues and early Christian patastoral.
Principal focus will be stylistic and thematic aspects of individual poems.
Late history of pastoral, particularly in English tradition, will also be
examined.
