ARAB 102 INTRODUCTION TO MODERN ARABIC LANGUAGE A Credits 5.00 Spring 03
SPECIAL NOTE: This is the continuation of ARAB 101 whereby the class is
scheduled to meet an hour on Mondays and Wednesdays and an hour and 15 minutes
on Tuesdays and Thursdays (10:50-12:05). Using the direct method and an
interactive approach, this course attempts to balance the fours language skills
seasoned with a strong cultural content. Students will be exposed to additional
basic structures, a wider range of vocabulary for daily life use and cultural
aspects related to the Arab world. Most of the content focuses on the
self,college,home and work environs in both the American and Arab contexts.

ARAB 202 INTERMEDIATE MODERN ARABIC LANGUAGE AND Credits 4.00 Spring 03
* DISTRIBUTION COURSE: GROUP I
This is the fourth sequel of the Arabic language courses. The class is
scheduled to meet an hour on Mondays and Wednesdays and hour and 15 minutes on
Tuesdays (2:30-3:50). In balancing the four language skills, the assignments
and activities center on a variety of text types of historical, geographical,
social, and literary nature as well as current topics and issues of the Arab
world. Students will acquire additional forms, structures and expressions that
help them communicate their thoughts and discourse at the Intermediate High
level.

ARAB 302 SEMINAR IN ARABIC Credits 3.00 Spring 03
Advanced readings and discussions focus on various literary and cultural topics
ranging from the classical to contemporary. The course integrates advanced
grammatical constructions with comprehension and communication skills.
