A survey of painting, sculpture, and architecture from the Renaissance
through the twentieth century.  An additional hour of tutorial per week
will be assigned during the first week.

Study of the material culture of Classical and Hellenistic Greece with a
focus on art and architecture, beginning with the 5th century B.C. and
following developments and changes throughout the 4th century to the Age
of Alexander the Great and his successors.

           * DISTRIBUTION COURSE: GROUP I
This course will examine the art and architecture produced in the Late
Gothic period within three distinct settings--the court, the city, and
the church.  We will explore private, public and religious life as
expressed in the objects architecture, and decoration of the castle and
palace, the house, the city hall and hospital, and the chapel and parish
church.

An archaeological and historical survey of the major monuments of
ancient Athens from the neolithic Age to the Roman Period.  Emphasis
will be placed on the monuments of Classical Athens in the fifth century
B.C., especially architectural forms and their political, social, and
religious functions.  Lecture, discussion, and student oral reports.
Prereq- Hart 305, Hart 306 or permission of instructor.

A critical look at the phenomenon of Dada in Zurich, Paris, New York,
and Germany.  Primary focus on visual arts in the cultural and political
context of c.1914 to 1923.  Additional consideration of Dada in
literature and the performing arts, and the legacy of Dada in the
twentieth century.  Seminar format with occassional lectures.
Prereq- Hart 475 or permission of instructor.
Enrollment is limited to 10.
