RUSS 331 RUSS COLONIAL & POST COLONIAL DISCOURSES Credits 3.00 Spring 00
What the Russians call "their" native land is often not theirs at all. This
course has a double focus: to examine Russian imperialist discourse on the
people of the Caucasus, Central Asia, Siberia, and other minorities in
literature and film of nineteenth and twentieth centuries on the one hand; and
on the other, to survey the post-colonial discourse of these peoples
themselves. No prior knowledge of colonial and post-colonial theory is
expected, and no knowledge of Russian is required.
