The Rice Annual Fund for Student Life and Learning raised $6,355,707 during fiscal year 2008, surpassing its goal of $6.15 million and making this year the most successful year to date. The Rice Annual Fund relies on the generosity of alumni and friends to provide immediate support for undergraduate scholarships, graduate fellowships and virtually every program that nourishes the university’s student experience.

Jonah Shaver Fulbright scholarship winner Jonah Shaver heads to France to expand nanotechnology research
Jonah Shaver, who in May earned his Ph.D. from Rice in applied physics, has been awarded a J. William Fulbright Scholarship to conduct postdoctoral research in the Brahim Lounis and Laurent Cognet research group at the Centre de Physique Moleculaire Optique et Hertzienne of Bordeaux University in France.
Urban Immersion Incoming Rice students make Houston home through service
More than 45 incoming Rice freshmen will arrive in Houston this month, but they won't be spending much time on campus. Taking advantage of the Community Involvement Center's Urban Immersion program, the students will venture out into the community to perform direct-service projects such as building houses, working with children and feeding the hungry.
