COLUMN: SA welcomes frosh class, fresh input
As I mentioned at matriculation, we have a lot to do at Rice in the upcoming year.
We must deal with academic honors, we must find a solution to the campus parking and shuttle system, we must improve student-athlete relations, we must commit to developing a service ethic, we must strengthen political activism and we must increase the awareness of the diversity of all people.
While many of these are massive in themselves, they only begin a long list of what the Student Association hopes to accomplish this year. The key to making these changes at Rice is that they are changes everyone, not just a group of farty politicos, are willing to undertake.
There are only two things to know about the Student Association: we are here to do what you want to see done and we need your help doing it.
If you see something at Rice you don't like, tell us. If you think of a new idea and might need help actualizing it, tell us. If you need input from all the colleges, tell us.
We are pretty easy to find. Each college has at least two members on the Senate, the governing body of the SA -- your college president and your college senator. Each college also has committee members that serve.
In September we will be completing the composition of the Senate with the selection of freshman reps.
Whether you are into the "student government thing" or not, I invite you to find out what we do and how we can help you.
Here's how to find us:
* IN CYBERSPACE: SA homepage http://riceinfo.rice.edu:80/projects
* SA List Serve: sa@rice.edu Student Association Newsgroup
* Maryana's e-mail: whales@ owlnet.rice.edu
* IN THE PHONE DIRECTORY: SA Office, Ley Student Center, Second Floor, 527-4079

We will meet the first night of school in the Student Center. Stop by.
Maryana Iskander is a Wiess College junior and president of the SA.
