NEWS IN BRIEF: Newcomers Guides delayed

Distribution of the Student Association's Newcomers Guides was held up by a major printing mistake at the Jostens Inc. printing plant in Topeka, Kan. Jostens printed and shipped the Newcomers Guides in time for them to be distributed to the new students and O-Week support personnel last Friday. When SA Internal Vice President Pavan Pinnamaneni received the shipment though, the copies had pages printed out of order to the extent that a page of Lovett College freshmen was in the Wiess College section and other colleges' freshmen were randomly placed.

Jostens agreed to reprint the Guides at no cost and ship them to Rice by Aug. 31. They were slated to be distributed yesterday upon receipt from Jostens. Pinnamaneni increased the size of the Newcomers Guides to 71 pages and added 16 pages of color pictures. This represents the second year that the printer has held up the Newcomers Guides from the appropriate distribution date during O-Week.
