NEWS IN BRIEF: Student Center Advisory Board Openings

The Student Center Advisory Board, which provides student input in the running of the Student Center, is recruiting new members.

SCAB was started early last year in an attempt to have students, not administrators, guide the Student Center's policies and programming and to help determine priorities for improving the facility.

"I see the advisory board as a mini-Board of Trustees for the Student Center," Student Center Director Steve Sutton said.

Among SCAB's priorities for next year are more programming, improved directional signs for the facility, a computer lab in the building and improvements to the lounges.

Last year the board simplified room reservation policies and waived all room use charges for student organizations. It was also involved in extending the hours of the bookstore.

There are roughly seven vacancies on the board on each of the four committees: Programming, Policies & Procedures, Publicity and Renovations.

All members have voting rights on the board; the four committee heads take turns chairing meetings.

Applications are available at the Student Center Information Desk and are due Friday, Sept. 29 at 5 p.m.
