NEWS IN BRIEF: Collins new budget director
Collins has managed the Department of Transportation's $39 billion annual budget since 1988. In 1993, she served for six months as Acting Assistant Secretary for Budget and Programs. Collins earned her undergraduate degree from Mount Holyoke College in 1974 and her master's degree in city planning from Harvard University in 1976.
"With her experience and abilities, Katherine is a great asset to Rice," said Dean Currie, vice president for finance and administration. "She brings the ability to listen to and share information with a wide range of stakeholders. Her skills will transfer well to the Rice environment."
She has won several awards, including the Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Executive in 1992 and the Secretary's Award of Meritorious Achievement from the U.S. Department of Transportation in 1991 and 1993.
