LETTER: Column on college system based upon inexperience
Although I respect Usman Baber's valid criticisms of the Rice residential system ( Thresher , Sept. 15), I don't think that a freshman has the experience necessary to weigh the system's attributes effectively against its shortcomings.
After five years of undergraduate study at Rice and three years' post-graduate association with the university, I feel strongly that the college system presents as constructive and valuable a social and residential environment as any college residential system can.
I suspect that, in time, Mr. Baber will learn to utilize the college system to better advantage and will come to appreciate the unique opportunities presented by it.
