SPORTS NOTEBOOK: Rugby dominates in Austin
The first side easily defeated St. Edward's 50-3. Senior captain Blake Hutchinson and junior Chris Blache scored two tries each.
"The forwards dominated all aspects of the game, and the backs played well," Blache said.
The second side won 10-0 with freshmen Nate Hester and Drew Rasco both scoring.
This past weekend Rice hosted Stephen F. Austin University in front of the largest home crowd in recent memory.
The second side registered its second-straight shutout, 22-0 with junior Mike Munson getting the hat-trick and junior Preston Evans scoring as well.
Under new coaches, Ed Brown and John Connolly, the rugby squad is undefeated in its first two games.
This weekend the Owls are off, but next week they head to Austin to battle the University of Texas under the lights, conveniently after the Rice-UT football game.
