* The Grad School Forum will be held in the Grand Hall of the Student Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Meet with representatives from various graduate schools to learn more about them and how to apply.
* The National Coming Out Day Rally takes place from noon to 1 p.m. in the Academic Quadrangle. Come and hear Jose Zuniga, a discharged former Soldier of the Year, and Donna Redwing, the national president of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, speak.
* Brown TG.
* Need a free ride to Hobby Airport? Meet the shuttle bus at the circular driveway in front of the Student Center. The bus leaves every 90 minutes, beginning at 9 a.m. and running until 4:30 p.m.
* The men's and women's swim teams compete in the SWC relays. The action begins at 4 p.m. at the Rice Pool.
* The Shepherd School of Music presents the violin students of Kathleen Winkler at 8 p.m. in Duncan Recital Hall.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14
* Show your support as our football team takes on Texas Christian University at Rice Stadium. The game begins at noon.
* Don't miss Rice women's volleyball as they take on Drake University at 7:30 p.m. in Autry Court.
* Spend your break at the Westheimer Street Festival. The 100 to 1000 blocks of Westheimer will be packed with artists, musicians and handicraft booths. Performances range from authentic Native-American dances to gravity-defying acts by professional skate board teams. The fun lasts from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 15
* Are you stuck at Rice? Go with the Rice Program Council to RenFest. Meet at the Sallyport at 10 a.m. Tickets are $8.95.
* The Westheimer Street Festival continues. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
MONDAY, OCTOBER 16
* Mid-term Recess.
* Packy Day. Worship our almighty Backpage editor Packy Saunders. This is an official Rice Program Council event. Check the RPC calendar if you don't believe us.
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 17
* Mid-term Recess.
* If you need a ride from Hobby Airport to Rice, take advantage of the shuttle bus which will be waiting outside the baggage claim area. The bus will make trips every 90 minutes, from 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
* "Laughter on the 23rd Floor," Neil Simon's latest hit Broadway comedy, plays Jones Hall as a part of the American Express Houston Broadway Series. Performance times are as follows: Tuesday through Friday at 8 p.m.; Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Sunday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
* Jazz pianist Jacky Terrasson kicks off the new Da Camera Jazz and Da Camera's Houston Debut Recitals. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Menil Collection. Call 524-5050 for ticket information.

* All classes normally held on Monday meet. Wednesday classes are cancelled to equalize holidays by days of the week during the semester.
* The Shepherd School of Music presents the trombone students of David Waters at 8 p.m. in Duncan Recital Hall.
* Norberto Codina Boeras, editor of La Gaceta de Cuba , speaks about the culture and literature of Cuba. 7:30 p.m. in the Physics Amphitheater. Call 285-5451 for more information.
* Kenneth A. DeVille, a medical-legal historian and lawyer, speaks on "Medical Malpractice: Interactions of Law and Technology in American Legal History" at 7:30 p.m. in Room 123 of the Anderson Biological Laboratories building. Part of the Rorschach Lecture Series in Legal History.
* The Rice Design Alliance presents Catherine Brown, a landscape architect, as part of its fall lecture series, which focuses on the role of landscape architects, designers and artists in shaping the design of public spaces. The lecture begins at 8 p.m. in the Brown Auditorium at the Museum of Fine Arts. Student tickets are $3. Call 524-6297 for more information.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 19
* The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is conducting blood drives at Baker College, Brown College, Hanszen College, Jones College and Wiess College. The Blood Center will be back on Oct. 23 to visit Will Rice College and Lovett College.
* The Fischer Duo, consisting of cellist Norman Fischer and pianist Jeanne Kierman, performs the works of American composers Victor Herbert, Ellsworth Milburn, Arthur Berger, Arthur Foote and Jonathan Kramer. 8 p.m., Duncan Recital Hall, Shepherd School of Music.
* If you're in the mood for authentic German music and food, then the Garden in the Heights at 3926 Feagan is the place to be. Join them as they celebrate Oktoberfest with live German music and performances by The Gypsies, Julius Tupa and Sound Connection, the Texas Polka Band and others.
* Nostalghia (Russian and Italian with subtitles) shows at the Rice Media Center at 7:30 p.m. In this film, director Andrei Tarkovsky tells the hauntingly beautiful tale of a young Soviet who travels to Italy to research the life of a Russian intellectual but succumbs to "nostalghia" -- a melancholy home-sickness. $3.50 with a Rice ID.
* Stanley Tigerman of Tigerman McCurry Architects in Chicago will speak at 7 p.m. in the Farish Gallery. Part of the Rice School of Architecture Lecture Series. Call 527-4864 for more information.
