Senate recommends expansion of honors

The Student Association Senate met Monday at 10 p.m. The following were discussed:

* There will be a Media Studies Symposium on Exile on campus, Oct. 27-29.

* Campus directories will be here at the beginning of November.

* Rice alumnus and economist Herman Daly will speak tonight at 7 p.m. in Herring Hall.

* There will be a Women's Mentorship meeting on Mon., Oct. 30 during lunch at Lovett College.

* A Health Professions Fair will be held tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will take place in the Student Center's Grand Hall.

* The Senate passed a resolution calling on the faculty to approve increasing the number of students receiving graduation honors. (See story, page 1.)

* After discussing a proposal to build a new owl cage on campus, the Senate tabled the issue until the next meeting. Owls like the ones shown in the photo at the top of this page were housed at Rice as recently as five years ago.

Next meeting: Monday at 10 p.m. in the Kelly Lounge of the Student Center.
