Veggie Club should apologize for fliers
The flyers around campus stating "There will be NO Veggie Club on Oct 14" are perhaps the most distasteful representations I have seen at Rice.
Beneath the announcement is the caption, "The people responsible for this error on our last posters have been reprimanded," and it is accompanied by the famous photo of an execution in Vietnam.
The brutality of war and the sanctity of human life are not humorous subjects to be appropriated lightly.
Defense of these posters is absurdist at best.
It would certainly be worthwhile for the Veggie Club to remove these flyers and replace them with an apology, or at least to refrain from abusing this type of imagery in the future.
