LETTER: `Student Center' aptly describes purpose
The Student Center is not a Herring, a Sewall, a Rayzor or even a Fondren.
The Student Center is not a building; it is a body which coordinates the programming and use of the Rice Memorial Center and of the Ley Student Center.
The directors of the Student Center and the Student Center Advisory Board serve as an umbrella for the Student Center's many functions. Career Services, Student Activities, Health Education, the Chapel, Willy's Pub and Sammy's are still located in the Rice Memorial Center.
Academic Advising, KTRU, the Thresher , the Rice Program Council, the Student Association and Student Organizations offices are located in the Ley Student Center.
All work in conjunction with the Student Center staff.
As an employee of the Student Center and member of SCAB, I feel that the name "Student Center" is perfectly appropriate.
Rooms are referred to and reserved by the name of the donor -- Farnsworth, Meyer, Miner, etc.
The Student Center is not what Rice Memorial Center was, but it includes the RMC in its everyday workings by continuing to provide various services to the student body.
