LETTER: Mana major can stand on its own
I learned recently that the managerial studies degree is now conferred only upon students with a double major.
To my way of thinking, this policy lessens the value of the BA I received in that program in 1984.
My experience in the business world suggests that the managerial studies program is far superior to the BBA curricula at various state universities.
The broad range of subject requirements is complemented by the freedom to pursue other interests without needing more than four years to graduate.
The former setup generated better-informed businessmen, while the current structure requires commitment to another singular interest, making it difficult to correlate to the needs of the real world.
Current policies in the business school imply an oppressive mentality at the administrative level.
While this is nothing new for Rice, more harm may be done if these policies are maintained.
