Kramer nominated for NFL Hall of Fame
Kramer came to Rice out of Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio. Kramer was the starting quarterback for the 1973-76 seasons.
He earned All-Southwest Conference and All-America honors during the 1976 campaign. During that season, he led the NCAA in total offense.
He also owns several season and career offensive records. Kramer has the highest career passing yardage, throwing for 6,197 yards. He also holds season and game records with 3,317 yards and 409 yards, respectively.
Kramer places second all-time with 37 career touchdown passes. He hit for 21 touchdown strikes in 1976, setting another school record.
Kramer was selected as the 27th pick of the first round by the Minnesota Vikings. He went on to play 13 years for the Vikings before finishing his career with the New Orleans Saints.
He won four NFC Central Championships in 1977, 1978, 1980 and 1989.
His best pro-season was 1986 when he was the NFL's top- rated quarterback and was selected to play in the 1986 Pro-Bowl. He was also honored by the United Press International as a member of its all-NFC team for that year.
