Safety Tips
Safe Actions = Happy Holidays
* Shop during daylight hours whenever possible and don't flash your cash. If you must shop at night, go with a friend and ask a store security guard to escort you to your vehicle. Most area malls offer a walking or escort cart service in and around parking areas.
* Don't overload yourself with packages which could be easily snatched from you. Make frequent trips to your car to stow your purchases and conceal them from sight either in a trunk or under a cover.
* Have your car keys in your hand when approaching your car. Look inside before you open the door, get in and lock the doors. This tactic will put you in control if someone approaches your car.
* If you feel uneasy or unsafe, go back to the last place you felt secure and call for mall security or, if on campus, call the Campus Police.
* Use an on-campus blue light phone anytime you feel threatened, anytime you see anything or anyone suspicious or anytime you need an escort to your college or parking area.
When on campus, police phone: dial ext. 6000 or 527-6000.
When off campus, police emergency only: dial 911.
For more information on crime prevention programs or to schedule a personal safety talk in your college, contact any RUPD officer or call
Sgt. Jim Baylor at ext. 6000.
