FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8

* Last day of classes.

* Wiess College Night.

* Hanszen and Lovett Colleges team up to bring the Handz-on Lovefest to Lovett Commons at 10 p.m. Enjoy a DJ and live music. Burnt toast plays at 10 p.m. Stay for Irie Time's performance at 12 a.m.

* The Houston Rockets batttle the Washington Bullets at the Summit. 7:30 p.m. For ticket info., call 627-DUNK.

* The Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra performs at 8 p.m. in Stude Concert Hall.

* The Rice Media Center pays tribute to Ginger Rogers, showing two of her finest films back to back. The first, Top Hat , a musical featuring Rogers and her dancing partner, Fred Astaire, starts at 7:30 p.m. Stay for Stage Door , which starts at 9:30 p.m. It captures a group of aspiring actresses and their interactions with producers, boyfriends and each other. $3.50 with student ID.

* The Book House kicks off an exhibit of Allen V. Roberson's photography with a reception from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 1643 Richmond Ave. For more info., call 524-0992.

* Jump back in time to the Paleozoic Era. "Ancient Creatures, Ancient Seas," an exhibit of Trilobites, opens at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Runs through May 26.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 9

* Candyland, a party sponsored by Pride, runs from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. in Anderson Hall. Free margaritas, sangria, sodas and food.

* HACER hosts "La Posada," a traditional Mexican celebration that reenacts Joseph and Mary's search for shelter. The procession begins in Brown Commons at 7:30 p.m. with a party afterwards in Lovett Commons at 9 p.m. Free food and drinks plus entertainment.

* Women's basketball takes on McNeese State. 7 p.m. at Autry Court.

* Come see the Houston Aeros battle Las Vegas at the Summit. 7 p.m. For ticket info., call 621-AERO.

* Edvard Munch, best-known for The Scream , was crucified by critics and the public when his paintings debuted. See Edvard Munch , a movie about this repressed artist. 7:30 p.m. at Rice Media Center. $4 with a student ID.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 10

* The Second Annual Holiday Festival includes a $4.40 buffet dinner with dessert, photos with Santa, celebrations of Hannukah and Kwanzaa and much more. 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. in the Grand Hall.

* Ever seen robots play one-on-one? Come watch robots built by 32 teams of ELEC 201 students in a "Robo-Basketball" competition. 1 p.m. in Chemistry Lecture Hall.

* The Houston Cellular Jingle Bell Run, which benefits the Houston Downtown YMCA, attracted 10,624 participants last year. Come see why it's so popular. Downtown YMCA, 1600 Louisiana. 2 p.m - 4 p.m. For more info., call 659-8501.

* Matinee Theater project presents "A Christmas Carol." 3 p.m. at Houston Skyline Theater, 1617 Fannin. $10. For more info., call 759-0701.

* Cellist Lisa McCormick and pianist Georgi Slavchev play works by Britten, Chopin, Liszt and Shostakovich. 1 p.m. in Duncan Hall.

* The Museum of Fine Arts presents Red for Danger, Fire, and Love , a salute to pioneers of filmaking as the art form approaches its centennial. Red for Danger, Fire, and Love comprises three different German silent films entitled The Treacherous Woman , Queen of the Stock and Christmas Dream . At 2 p.m. Three more German films, The Right to Exist , The Mysterious Club , and Twice Lived show at 7 p.m. Live piano accompaniment at both triple-feature screenings. $4 with a student ID.

* Edvard Munch plays again at the Rice Media Center. 7:30 p.m.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 11

* Finals frenzy begins.

* Study break sponsored by SCAB and RPC in front of the Bookstore and Coffee House. Free bagels and fruit. Hot chocolate from the coffee house 25 cents. Free massages from a professional massage therapist. 9:30 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 12

* The Shepherd Society and the Shepherd School of Music invite you to participate in Rice's Sixteenth Annual Messiah Sing-along. 8 p.m. in Stude Concert Hall.

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 13

* Final exams begin. They last until Dec. 20.

* Study break hosted by Dr. Gillis, Dr. Camacho and their wives in the Grand Hall. Free tacos, pizza, muffins, fruit, yogurt and more. 9:30 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.

* Houston architect Barry Moore delivers a lecture entitled "Building Our City: The Architecture of Houston" at 8 p.m. Free. Refreshments served. Channing Hall, 5200 Fannin. For more info., call 527-5200.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14
